After nice ache, a proper feeling comes –
The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Tombs –
The stiff Coronary heart questions ‘was it He, that bore,’
And ‘Yesterday, or Centuries earlier than’?
The Toes, mechanical, go spherical –
A Picket manner
Of Floor, or Air, or Ought –
Regardless grown,
A Quartz contentment, like a stone –
That is the Hour of Lead –
Remembered, if outlived,
As Freezing individuals, recollect the Snow –
First – Chill – then Stupor – then the letting go –
After nice ache, a proper feeling comes – (372) by Emily Dickinson
